ALTERNATIVE PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP SESSION

Mix, Mingle, and Measure with ConfLab: Experience and Shape New Interdisciplinary Paradigms for Group Dynamics Research
Thursday, July 17, 2025
1:00pm - 4:00pm
Facilitators: Hayley Hung, Delft University of Techology; Nale Lehmann-Willenbrock, University of Hamburg; Vanessa Begemann, University of Hamburg; Balint Dioszegi. University of Greenwich; Anne Ter Wal, Imperial College London

In addition to our typical preconference workshop offering, there is an addition preconference session that includes a novel combination of both learning about multimodal approaches to studying groups alongside actually participating in a study involving multimodal approaches.  See below for a preliminary invitation from the facilitators – and further information will be added to our site as available.

We would like to bring to your attention our pre-conference workshop “Mix, Mingle, and Measure with ConfLab: Experience and Shape New Interdisciplinary Paradigms for Group Dynamics Research”. It will be held in the afternoon of July 17 at the 20th Annual INGRoup Conference.

This interdisciplinary workshop has three overarching and interconnected aims, all under the motto “by the community, for the community”:
  1. Building connections and creating networking opportunities among scholars across disciplines and career stages, but who share a common interest: understanding group dynamics through innovate multimodal paradigms!
  2. Inspiring future interdisciplinary research and fostering interdisciplinary research collaborations on multimodal group interaction data using sensor data.
  3. Generating a rich dataset of multi-modal group interaction, which will be made available for participants and the broader research community.

This means, next to connecting with diverse scholars who share the same interest as you do and creating potential future research collaborations, as a participant of this workshop, you will also provide the very data that you could use later to research and collaborate on!

Please note: To register for and participate in this workshop, you must provide your informed consent to having your data collected.

For a first understanding, you can take have a look at a similar event hosted in 2019. Our own website for INGRoup Conference 2025 edition is coming soon, and it will include a sign-up link. The main difference between the 2019 and 2025 edition will be recordings of speech-quality audio of each participant a smart drinking glass that also records participant behavior.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact to Hayley Hung (h.hung@tudelft.nl)
